Darryl Rogers

Darryl Rogers was the head coach during 1976 – 1979

Darryl Rogers made three helmet design changes in the four years he was head coach, with the final helmet protecting the player with a white facemask and the Michigan State Helmet Logo on both sides, a combination that is still used today. He earned admiration from Spartan fans by referring to University of Michigan as “arrogant asses.”

Darryl Rogers’ final record at Michigan State was 24 – 18 – 2. Rogers was voted Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1977 and Sporting News’ College Coach of the Year in 1978.
