• Player last names punched out on green label-tape placed vertically on the back of the helmet on the center stripe

Jersey

• "MICHIGAN STATE" appears above the player numerals in the Saban-Era Michigan State Script
• Solid color player numerals on front
• Nike logo on right shoulder of the home jerseys, left shoulder of the away jerseys
• V-neck color opposite as jersey colors
• Solid color TV numbers on top of shoulders
• Player last names on the back above the player numerals
• Solid color player numerals on back

Pants

• White pants
• Nike logo on the front of the upper right leg
• Michigan State Helmet Logo on the front of the upper left leg
• Three stripes: green center stripe, one-inch between half-inch green striping

• Beginning with the Michigan State vs. Notre Dame game on September 22, 2001 (17 - 10 Win), and for all the remaining games of the season, Michigan State added a United States flag patch to their jerseys along with a United States flag decal to their helmets, in memory of the events of September 11, 2001
• For the Michigan State vs. Fresno State game on December 31, 2001 (44 - 35 Win), Michigan State wore a Silicon Valley Football Classic patch on the left shoulder - to make room for the patch, the Nike logo was moved below the V-neck
