Style modeled after the Pittsburgh Steelers. Block S Logo on the right side of the helmet. Thick green stripe on the pants.

Helmet

  • Kelly green helmet
  • White one-inch center stripe
  • White four-inch Block S Logo on the right side
  • White facemask
  • “STATE” or “SPARTANS” over the nose bumper, depending on the season
  • White one-and-one-half-inch full block “vista craft” player numerals placed on each side of the center stripe on back above the nose bumper
  • White one-and-one-half-inch full block “vista craft” player numerals placed on each side of the center stripe on back


Jersey

  • Green jersey
  • White “MICHIGAN STATE” appears above the player numerals – font reminiscent of the 1965 & 1966 national championship teams
  • White solid color player numerals on front
  • White v-neck
  • Three stripes: two-inch white center stripe, one-inch between half-inch white striping – some players had their sleeves cut short making the appearance of just two stripes
  • White player last names on the back above the player numerals


Pants

  • White pants
  • Single thick green stripe down the leg
  • Same pants used for home and away games


Away Uniform

Jersey

  • White jersey
  • Green “MICHIGAN STATE” appears above the player numerals – font reminiscent of the 1965 & 1966 national championship teams
  • Green solid color player numerals on front
  • Three green stripes on the sleeves, with the middle being the thickest – some players had their sleeves cut short making the appearance of just two stripes
  • Green player last names on the back above the player numerals


1984 Mid-Season Changes

For the Michigan State vs. Army game on December 22, 1984 (10 – 6 Loss), Michigan State wore a Cherry Bowl patch on top of the left shoulder.

1985 Mid-Season Changes

For the Michigan State vs. Georgia Tech game on December 31, 1985 (17 – 14 Loss), Michigan State wore an All American Bowl patch on top of the left shoulder.

1987 Season Changes

  • “STATE” over the front bumper of the helmet


1987 Mid-Season Changes

For the Michigan State vs. USC game on January 1, 1988 (20 – 17 Win), Michigan State wore Rose Bowl patches on top of both shoulders.

1988 Mid-Season Changes

For the Michigan State vs. Georgia game on January 1, 1989 (34 – 27 Loss), Michigan State wore Gator Bowl patches on top of both shoulders.

1989 Mid-Season Changes

For the Michigan State vs. Hawaii game on December 25, 1989 (33 – 13 Win), Michigan State wore Aloha Bowl patches on top of both shoulders.

1990 Mid-Season Changes

For the Michigan State vs. USC game on December 31, 1990 (17 – 16 Win), Michigan State wore John Hancock Bowl patches on top of both shoulders – the John Hancock Bowl is presently called the Sun Bowl.

1993 Season Changes

  • Big Ten Conference logo added to the nose bumper of the helmet
  • Big Ten Conference patch added to the center of the V-neck on the jersey
  • Russell Athletic logo on side of right shoulder


1993 Mid-Season Changes

For the Michigan State vs. Louisville game on December 28, 1993 (18 – 7 Loss), Michigan State wore Liberty Bowl patches on top of both shoulders.
