Spartans Font
The Spartans Font was first introduced for the 2010 – 2011 season and is an element from the two-year rebranding partnership with Nike. The Spartans Font appears on the front of the current home and away jerseys, above the player numerals.
New Michigan State Logo
The New Michigan State Logo was never officially introduced. It was planned to be an element of the two-year overall athletics rebranding in partnership with Nike. Three months before the planned announcement, a fan found the logo on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website. After a massive outcry by fans, Athletic Director Mark Hollis decided to scrap the New Michigan State Logo.
State Script Logo
The State Script Logo was first introduced for the 2000 – 2001 season, appearing above the player numerals on the front of the jersey. The logo was a modernized version of 1979’s Original State Script Logo. The 2009 – 2010 season was the last season for the State Script Logo when it was replaced with the Spartans Font.
Michigan State Arch Logo
The Michigan State Arch Logo was first introduced for the 1995 – 1996 season, appearing above the player numerals on the front of the jersey. The arch logo was also included in a basketball specific logo, which appeared on the bottom left of the shorts during the 1995 – 1999 seasons. The 1999 – 2000 season was the last season Reebok made the basketball jerseys and the last for the Michigan State Arch Logo.
Michigan State Helmet Logo
The Michigan State Helmet Logo was first introduced for the 1999 – 2000 season, appearing on the shorts. After six seasons off, the Michigan State Helmet Logo returned for the 2006 – 2007 season to the shorts and appears on the current shorts.
Diamond Block S Logo
The Diamond Block S Logo was first introduced for the 1995 – 1996 season, appearing on the shorts and ending with the 1999 – 2000 season.
Block S Logo
The Block S Logo was first introduced for the 1995 – 1996 season, appearing either on the leg or belt buckle of the shorts ending with the 2005 – 2006 season.
Original State Script Logo
The Original State Script Logo was first introduced for the 1979 National Championship game, appearing above the player numerals on the front of the jersey when Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Greg Kelser led Michigan State to its first NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship in 1979. The Original State Script Logo was also featured on the 1979 National Championship throwback jerseys, worn six times during 2001 – 2004..
Gruff Sparty Logo
The Gruff Sparty Logo was first introduced for the 1977 – 1978 season, appearing on the right leg of the away basketball jerseys. The Gruff Sparty Logo was only used for two seasons, even though it has appeared on countless items of fan apparel for the last 50 years.
